I’m Sharon, a Mum of two girls and a registered child restraint technician. I am utterly obsessed with child restraints.
I first became interested when I became an Aunty. My sister is a hospital (ICU) physiotherapist. She understands and has seen first-hand the difference that correct child restraint use makes to a child’s outcome if they are involved in a crash. Her passion for child safety soon inspired me.
When I became a Mum myself, I thought I had it all sussed. I did not! If I knew then, what I know now I would do quite a few things differently.
I love kids our and I want to keep them safe in cars. Unfortunately, we’re not doing this as well as we could in NZ.
It’s estimated that approximately 80% of child restraints are NOT installed correctly. That means 80% of our children are not getting as much protection from death and injury as they could be.
For most of us as parents and carers, this is not through lack of trying or caring. It can be really hard to get it right! We drive a huge array of vehicles and there is a wide and varied selection child restraints available. This is both a blessing and a curse. There are an awful lot of variables to consider when choosing a seat and using it correctly. For some, even accessing quality restraints is a huge challenge.
I have set up my home-based business in Upper Hutt fitting and correctly* cleaning child restraints. I will be running workshops and using social media channels to provide lots of useful advice and information to those who cannot visit me in person.
